Le Tired

It's 2 am and I'm sitting here with Steven and Kato as Steven records a song and Kato is hard at work doodling his latest masterpiece. It's funny how back in high school we would never be idly sitting at someone's house hanging out like this. There was always a party to be found on a Friday or Saturday night and we would just get shit faced. But now when we hang out we do so in a more responsible manner. It's been a while since any of us have got so drunk where we can't remember the night of. College parties are rather lame compared to the parties we used to go to. Maybe parties just aren't as fun anymore, or maybe we're just not a part of that social scene anymore. Well either way I like it this way, spending time with quality company rather than get shit faced with people you don't really know or care about.

We took the dogs to the park today, as you can see Cooper enjoyed the park more than Nori.

Winston Superstar

I am currently playing with the Winston Superstar, Paul Han's unofficial signature yoyo. Perfect size, weight, and balance. Best yoyo I've played with hands down.
Fairly exclusive yoyo that was released a year or so ago. 100 made and 6 were given to friends and family of Paul. 94 released to the public and I guess they're currently going for $300? Sweet deal.

I was very pleased the academy awarded Christopher Waltz with best supporting actor. He made Col. Hans Landa such a badass.

Sense of Humor

Today Derek and I were driving around running errands when we came across this lady with a sense of humor. He has this notepad with
just laying around in his car. Just out of spontaneity I grabbed it and held it up to my window when passing by cars. Nobody noticed except this middle aged lady who looks over at a red light. She rolls down her window and says, "Hey aren't I a little old? You guys be looking for someone a little younger, I think you'll have better luck a few cars back". I was unsure of how to initially react because I was so caught off guard. Then she just starts laughing and Derek and I look at each other and we just start cracking up. We drive side by side with the lady for a few blocks and at each red we would have a few back and fourths going. Eventually we made our turn and she waved bidding us farewell as she drove by.
Hopefully we made her day as much as she made ours...

Moon

A few days ago a friend recommended the movie Moon to me. I watching it and I have to say it's a really good movie. Sam Rockwell's performance was really impressive, but man I can't believe the movie didn't receive any recognition from the academy.. how disappointing. But anywho, go check it out and enjoy the voice of Kevin Spacey as GERTY the monotone robot!

Brain Twister

I've been playing with my yo-yo for almost a week now and I have to say this is some pretty addicting stuff. I have a few tricks I've learned on lock, but still have a lot to work on...

Boiling Crab

Last night Kato treated Janet, Derek, and I to boiling crab. It was my first time going and it was delicious! When you order, you first pick the type of seafood which range from shrimp and craw fish to dungeons crab and lobster. Then you pick the flavor which consist of rajun cajun, lemon & pepper, garlic butter, or the whole shebang. And lastly it's a matter of "how spicy can you go?", it ranges from nonspicey to XXX. The restaurant setup is very interesting because there are no plates or utensils. They bring you your order in a plastic bag (services are 1 lb). You eat and discard the shells on the table and at the end of the meal they come and just rip off the paper "table cloth" and put on a new one. Kato and I both got the shrimp while Janet and Derek got the craw fish. Boiling Crab is pretty popular and if you go for dinner it's generally a 2 hour wait but luckily we got there around 4 and we finished around 6:30. After going you can expect to smell like shrimp for the rest of the day/night. SOOO YUMMY! I'll definitely be going back sometime soon.

Adam

I recently watched Adam which was a film about a guy with asperger's syndrome. The illness pretty much making him socially inept and throughout the story you watch this relationship between him and this cute chick who moves in next door develop. The first time I came across this film was sitting through previews waiting for 500 Days of Summer (Zooey Deschanel Drool*) to begin and it caught my interest. I was planning on watching it when it came out to theaters but when it did come out I just never seemed to have the time to go watch it. But eventually the task has been completed. The movie has a similar structure to 500 Days of Summer with certain exceptions pertaining to the plot. But it goes something along the lines of: guy meets girl, guy like girl and girl likes guy, they get in a relationship, shit happens and they break up, time goes by and they're okay. I guess the underlining message of it all is being okay in the end a good thing, but that doesn't necessarily make the most interesting ending to a story. I want to know what happens after. I want more of a conclusion, but I guess one should appreciate the honesty of the film.
Nevertheless Adam is a well made film with a few unexpected laughs and soundtrack of low-fi songs and original scores. It was definitely an interesting watch, I suggest you go check it out!

Davis, California

Tyler and I went to Davis for the weekend to kick back and visit some friends we haven't seen in a while. We took the amtrack here on a Friday afternoon and we're leaving today (Sunday). I spent the first half of my trip with Sarasa and she showed me the college life. Many people give UCD a bad rep but honestly its a very cool place to go to school. According to Sarasa UCD has the biggest campus within the UC system. I'm pretty sure UCSD has the biggest campus and she's only saying that b/c she wants to build up Davis. But everyone at UCD ride bikes around to get to class so I guess that's a good indicator of the school size. The school is located in quaint agricultural town and in a way this place reminds me of Cupertino. It's a very serene place to live where nothing crazy really goes on and people are okay with that. They prefer it. If you want to go to a college that has a peaceful surrounding where you can focus on school then look no further.
On Saturday Sarasa took me to the local farmers market with her roommate Michele and friend Alberto. It was fun enjoying all sort of samples. Some of the fruits I had there definitely couldn't be found at a local supermarket in Cupertino. They were so fresh and yummy. Many UCD students come here to buy a little something to keep in their dorm to munch on during the week. After the farmers market we went to go pick up stuff for Sarasa's 10K run. Go Sarasa! On the way there we wandered into an art gallery and peeked around there. The spoon art seemed to be a favorite among Sarasa and Michele. I spent the remainder of the day with Sarasa and we had dinner. After dinner we lounged around and reminisced old times; it was nice seeing her. It's always nice talking to an old friend you haven't seen in a while. I think Davis is good for her and she's surrounded by good company who'll take care of her.
Today is Sunday and I'm sitting here typing this as everyone else is getting up recovering from the night before. I think the plan is to hang out a while more at Varun/Kyle's and they'll drop us off at the train station later in the afternoon. This trip was a success and I hope to come back and visit again sometime soon.

Girls will be girls (sort of)

I went up to the city with Taylor today. At night we stopped by Asia Sf to pay Derek and his "girls" a visit. The place is nice, its a very quaint place. You can walk past it without ever guessing what really goes on inside that place. We show up at around 7 not knowing what to expect b/c we didn't have reservations on a Friday night, or how we would get in b/c the place checks for ID since it was restaurant/bar type of place. Derek managed to pull some strings and got us in. When we went in it was right in the middle of a show. Now the unique thing about Asia Sf is that its a restaurant/bar with showgirls. Except the girls aren't really girls... they're all transvestites!(how crazy) We got seated ordered a little bit of food and we got a few drinks on the house. The food was pretty tasty, we got an order of sashimi and pineapple cheesecake. We weren't too hungry b/c we ate prior to the visit. But i have to say, the food and drinks were exquisite and the showgirls were amazing. They were extremely entertaining and just so much fun. These "girls" just love what they do. Derek had one of the girls mess around with Taylor and I. She came up and wrapped her arms around us. Every time she would walk by us she would touch/poke at us while occasionally throwing a few winks into the mix. Time went by very fast and the fun was short lived. Unfortunately we had to call it a night at around 9 but we definitely plan to come back for round two in the near future and experience Asia Sf to its full potential. Hopefully the infamous Aliyah will be working next time. Overall we both loved Asia Sf. Only in Sf will you find a fine place like this...

A New Year

I successfully cleaned my entire room (something I have been putting off for years). Everything is so nice and organized for once. How exciting! I purchased 2 pairs of sweats and am comfortably enjoying a pair of them as I type. Learned how to snowboard in Tahoe. So much fun! School start tomorrow and I'm going to be pretty busy this quarter but hopefully it'll be a good kind of busy... And I updated my blog, something I haven't done in well over a month. The new year is off to a relatively good start.

2010 please be good to me!

Attitudes

I guess lately something I've noticed around me is the attitudes of people and passing judgment. My friend was talking about high school rallies he was never one to really get into it because he was always afraid of looking like a douche bag. But he'd always look around and see that there's the one guy getting into it and he may look like an idiot at the moment but he comes out of the rally all riled up while he comes out thinking, boy that was lame. So maybe its not always worth caring about what people think. I mean why would it what kind of impression you make on people you either don't know or don't really care about? But also some people go overboard with that and really do end up acting like douche bags. They act out to stand out and be funny in sometimes crude/immature way that they're not acting like themselves. So I guess its just better to be real. Those who like you for who you are, awesome. And those who don't really like you for who you really are, then I guess that's too bad. There really is no point to cater to someone else so much to where you stop acting like yourself. But it seems like some people have a certain image they think they need to live up to at all times. Some feel they need to be the funny guy 24/7, some think they need to be the macho touch one, and others think they need to always be Mr. Cool. I mean some people are born funny people and others really are more laid back and suave. But that's all something they're born with.
I used to always care what other people thought about me. Now in retrospect I never really cared about what the people I like and hang out with thought about me too much because we were all so close and comfortable with each other. So i was actually more concerned with how strangers though about me which is pointless. But I think lately I've got better about not caring and also better at not prematurely judging people... or at least I like to think I do.

What the deuce

When it comes to the believers of existentialism, there are 2 types of people. There are those who accept it, and hold it to be a working reality. Then there are those who accpet it, but refuse to consider it a representation of reality. Who is wrong and who is right? Both sides have very strong arguements, but there is no conclusion. In the end it leads to a series of questions, is nothing in essence something? Is the absent taste of water within itself a taste?... well you get the picture. It all comes down to are you a man (used loosely) of faith, or science? Existentialism or... the oppositite of existentialism (can't think of the correct termonology off the top of my mind). There are some things which you just can not prove, because we don't have the capacity to measure or analyze some things. So if we are unable to measure/analyze something, we are unable to study it and deduce a conclusion. Then do we not rely on good faith to accept certain things? I guess it goes both ways.
Now you may have noticed the word "things" in the line above is in bold. The word "thing" is so impersonal, it generalizes, its vauge, its not convincing. So to give my sentence more substance, we can examine the function of curreny vis-à-vis money. Money only works if we believe in it. It has become something that is heavily computerized, there are countless accounts of money globally. Almost everyone has a bank account now, but there is not enough physical money to represent the inherent wealth of everyone. In fact if Bill Gates, one of the wealthiest men on earth, withdrew all of his money our economy would not support itself and collapse... true story. Still have the same idea of money?
I guess what I concluded in the time of typing all this is, despite our invididual perceptions we should be open minded. Everything is peachy keen in moderation. Don't be so quick to shoot something down at first encounter. With that being said I leave you with this...

There was an owl who lived in an oak.
The more he heard the less he spoke.
The less he spoke, the more he heard.
We all should be like that wise old bird.

Wise owl indeed...

4th of July weekend

I went camping this 4th of July weekend with about 70 famlies or so... yeah it sounds pretty crazy doesn't it? But everyone who went were friends of my parents and their families so I don't really associate with any of the kids my age. I've gone to outings like this with them before, I just don't really have anything in common with them so I'd rather keep to myself. There is nothing to do at this campsite. No lake nothing. Just a lot of trees and dirt.
So, what does one bring to a "solo" 3 day 2 night outing? well i loaded my ipod with some new music. A lot of it was Tegan and Sara, I've known about them for some time now but I just never bothered to listen to their music, so I spent a lot of time listening to them these past 3 days. On top of that, I realized that I have never read the final Harry Potter book so I started. Its pretty good, I read a lot in my tent to a) kill time b) get out of the cold c) get away from annoying little kids d) just to read. Sweet deal. Over half way done, Hooked on Harry! Lastly I brought my skateboard to cruise around, it was fun riding around. The roads were surprisingly good. But I was limited to extremely remedial skating. I wish I was better.
I want to be like this guy. Check out his sexy tre bomb.

oh how i envy you.

Here's to summer

It finally feels like summer, getting into the routine of waking up around noon. Then wallow around at home until the afternoon/night because its too hot to do anything during the day. After the sun goes down, so does the temperature so we go out and wreak havoc with some good friends until 2 am. Everyday is the same, everything so mundane. We always think of summer as a time to go wild, where we can abandon the structural life, i.e. sleeping still when almost everyone else is waking up and getting ready for work, school, and whatever or still be awake when everyone else is sound asleep. How about having the temperature jurisdict what we do during the day. That sound like a standard of which routine revolves around, so isn't that within itself a structure of life? Perhaps not. Maybe something out of the ordinary will happen one of these days, which will defy redundancy who knows...

yata

Yata! I did it!
I wanted to do something new other than facebook, so I'm giving online blogging another shot. This was an intresting week, back from Spring Break and theres a funky star testing schedule so I get to go to school around 10-11 which is nice but I get out around 2. With Spring Break done and had, nears the end of the school year. Which means one thing for us seniors, prom. I've been faced with a huge dilema of who to take. This has primarily been an issue for me since the begining of the school year. I've always wondered and worried who I'm going to ask and for the past 3 days I have been freaking out about it since most of my close friends have it all figured out. I've even considered asking a friend who I've lost contact with for about a year or so. I convinced myself, "go get her with spontinuity" and "sack up, ask her". But I've reailzed I should relax and follow the advice i so often dish out. "Whatever happens, happens for a reason. So just relax." With that being said I am reminded by a friend who often simply says "well see what happens." So I guess in the mean time I'll hang on tight, keep an open mind/eye, and see what happens.
